An Urgent Call for Prayer and Action in Zimbabwe

The 28-year rule of Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe is utterly disgraced and has been decisively rejected by the overwhelming majority of Zimbabweans.  Nevertheless he refuses to leave office and hand over to the legitimate government of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

Considering that Robert Mugabe and his Marxist ZANU came to power through violence and deception, it is not surprising that he has endeavoured to stay in power through the same means.

Tyranical Track Record

Tens of thousands of Matebele tribesmen were massacred by Mugabe’s North Korean trained Fifth Brigade in the 1980’s.  Zimbabwe troops engaged in horrific atrocities in Mozambique propping up the Marxist Frelimo dictatorship in that country, and in the Congo in support of Maoist dictator Kabila.

National Suicide

Thousands of productive farms were invaded, looted and destroyed by Mugabe’s thugs in his so called “land reform” programme. A country which used to export food became dependant on foreign aid.  Over 5 million Zimbabwean’s fled the catastrophic chaos in the country.

Zimbabwe now has the highest inflation in the world (over 150,000%), and the lowest life expectancy in the world (34 years).

What was once a bread basket of Africa, exporting food, is now a basket case, with millions starving.  Even the capital, Harare, can go without electricity for days.

Courageous Resistence to Communist Regime

Despite every attempt of Mugabe to rig these elections, the overwhelming majority of Zimbabweans have given a resounding defeat to this lawless dictator.

Will You Speak Out for Freedom in Zimbabwe?

Now it is imperative that Christians worldwide unite in prayer and action to ensure that the long-suffering people of Zimbabwe are freed from this oppressive tyrant.

State Terrorism

As Mugabe’s thugs beat civilians in the streets, and judges in their chambers, as Mugabe’s police assault and arrest members of Parliament and independent election observers, we need to ensure that the cause of freedom is not bludgeoned in Zimbabwe.  A military coup is seeking to keep the newly elected government from office and perpetuate Mugabe’s dictatorship.

Mobilise Prayer for Zimbabwe

This is a time of great urgency when we need to mobilize our congregations to earnestly intercede for Christians suffering in Zimbabwe.  Pastors have been imprisoned for “subversive prayers.”  Church buildings have been raided by police and bulldozed down.

Maintain Pressure Against the Persecutors

Please contact your elected representatives to urge decisive action to ensure that the lawless ZANU-PF regime of Robert Mugabe is removed from office and replaced with the democratically elected legitimate government of President Morgan Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change.

A Plea for Christians to Support Zimbabwe

Collen Makumbirofa of the Foundation for Reason and Justice has just returned from observing the elections in Zimbabwe.  He writes: “I knew that the elections were going to be rigged since Mugabe’s ZANU-PF government does not want to leave power.  ZANU-PF violence characterized some areas.  The elections were controlled and announced by leaders loyal to Mugabe.  Majority of ZANU-PF leaders are criminals who have committed serious crimes such as torture, murder, theft, corruption, etc…therefore they do not want to leave power for fear of prosecutions.  Zimbabweans are enduring massive starvation.  Government relief aid is only given to ZANU-PF supporters.  Some relief aid from big organisations such as Red Cross and Care International is manipulated to feed ZANU-PF partisans.  Persecutions and atrocities in Zimbabwe are very serious.”

Write Letters

Please write letters to your leaders urging them to support the long suffering Zimbabweans in the struggle for freedom and justice.  Write letters to the editor of your favorite newspaper or magazine to encourage others to help our brethren in Zimbabwe.

Do Not Give Up

Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us in the Parable of the Persistent Widow that even an unjust judge will do what is right in response to persistent prayer and pressure.  The Lord taught us that we ought always to pray and not give up (Luke 18:1-7).

Prayer and Action

We need to pray and act now to ensure that the Zimbabweans attain the freedom that they have been praying and working for for so many years.  And we need to be prepared to support them in rebuilding the country on Biblical principles.

Restoration of the Rule of Law

Of the highest priority will be laying solid Biblical foundations for a new nation.  Mugabe’s Marxist regime has destroyed the Rule of Law and devastated the economy.  Of high priority for the new government of Zimbabwe will be to restore respect for life and property and for the Rule of Law.  We would recommend that the very first act of the new administration would be to call for a National Day of Repentance and Prayer as Zambia’s MMD did in 1991

The Reconstruction of Zimbabwe

Mission teams of Frontline Fellowship are preparing now for conducting Biblical Worldview Seminars, God and Government Seminars, Reformation and Revival Seminars in order to assist Zimbabweans in the reconstruction of their country.

By God’s grace we have reprinted 10,000 copies of the new Biblical Principles for Africa book in preparation for this leadership training in Zimbabwe.

A high priority of the next Great Commission Course will be to train mission teams for ministry in Zimbabwe.  Do you want to be part of this nation transforming team?

A Critical Turning Point in History

The situation is similar to that in Eastern Europe in 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down and communist dictator Ceaucescu was shot by his own army on Christmas Day.  We were ready then to go into Romania and assist in Leadership Training for the newly liberated country.

Leadership Training

Similarly, in 1991 when Kaunda’s socialist UNIP regime was swept from power in Zambia a new administration came to power declaring it’s commitment to establishing Zambia as a Christian country.  We had the privilege of going into Zambia and conducting many Biblical Worldview Seminars for teachers, chaplains, pastors, evangelists and government officials.

National Repentance for National Restoration

If we want God to heal Zimbabwe, then we need to mobilize God’s people to humble themselves and pray and seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways (2 Chronicles 7:14).

“Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell in.” Isaiah 58:12

Yours for Faith and Freedom
